The incline dumbbell fly exercise targets your upper chest with a wide arc motion. It builds chest width and creates that rounded, full chest look.
1. Set bench to 30-45 degrees and grab two dumbbells 2. Lie back with dumbbells pressed up above your chest, palms facing each other 3. Lower the weights in a wide arc with slightly bent elbows until you feel a stretch 4. Squeeze your chest to bring the incline dumbbell fly weights back to starting position 5. Keep the arc motion smooth and control the weight on both up and down phases
• Keep your shoulders pinned back against the bench throughout the entire incline dumbbell fly movement • Don't let the weights drop below chest level or you'll stress your shoulders • Think about hugging a large barrel rather than pressing straight up • Keep a slight bend in your elbows - never lock them out straight
• Going too heavy and turning the incline dumbbell fly into a press movement instead of a fly • Dropping the weights too low and putting dangerous stress on your shoulder joints • Using momentum to swing the weights instead of controlling the movement with your chest
