The split stance cable chop builds core power and rotational strength. It targets your obliques while teaching you to transfer force from your hips through your torso.
1. Set cable machine to high position and grab handle with both hands 2. Step into split stance with outside foot forward, facing perpendicular to machine 3. Pull cable across your body in diagonal chopping motion while rotating your torso 4. Keep arms straight during the split stance cable chop movement 5. Control the weight back to start position and complete all reps before switching sides
• Keep your core tight throughout the entire split stance cable chop movement • Move from your hips and torso, not just your arms during the rotation • Maintain the split stance position - don't let your feet move during the exercise • Focus on explosive movement down and controlled movement back up
• Using only arms instead of rotating the whole torso during split stance cable chop • Standing too close to the cable machine, which limits your range of motion • Moving your feet during the split stance cable chop instead of staying planted
